About

micheleWelcome to design flutter! This is where I blog about what I love and share things that inspire and delight me. My style is a free-form mix of eras; anything from French provincial to Italian mid-century, from 40’s taxidermy to 50′s Hollywood regency, from rustic elegance to industrial salvage. I find beauty in the patina that only age can bring, and the character and charm of the past. And belle patine is my shop.

For me, it’s all about the interplay of clean, minimal shapes, nature, neutral palettes with jots of color, rich textures, and the integrity of materials and craftsmanship. I love a mix of wood, metal, worn leather, softened textiles and stone. I am as excited to find an exquisitely preserved Danish modern piece as I am a primitive, weathered and worn farm table. I crave light and function. The ultimate thrill is finding objects that are all at once uniquely gorgeous and useful.

It’s important to me that belle patine is both planet-friendly and a great source of well-made vintage style. Vintage furnishings were made with a craftsmanship that has become increasingly rare in our mass-produced culture. Recycling heirloom-quality pieces and immersing ourselves in the vintage modern lifestyle is good for the soul, and the environment!

My desire is that design flutter and belle patine inspire you to create a home that comforts and delights you. I’m driven by the sheer joy of a great find, and always on the hunt for design I think you’ll love. My greatest satisfaction is passing on to you the belle patine of especially wonderful vintage modern interiors, objects and furnishings. You are belle patine’s reason to be.
